DURATIONS: DISAPPEAR: Gong Meditation with Samer Ghadry

DISAPPEAR treats the mind as a field of chaos that must be met with a new and controlled energy in order to find stillness. The gong is a perfect instrument, when conducted accordingly, to bring about a profound change in the mind-state. In this Durations performance, Samer will guide the gong and the mind toward a safe and expansive nothingness, where more is possible, but less appears. Samer Ghadry is a multi-instrumental musician who has studied and worked in the fields of sound healing and sound meditation for the past nine years, learning broadly with several renowned schools and teachers focused on energetic healing, acoustics, Bon-po, and Zen Buddhism. Samer has assisted numerous related learning programs, leads retreats and trainings of his own, and offers regular meditation and sound healing classes and events with arts and wellness institutions around NYC and the tri-state area. He was a 2022 Pioneer Works music resident, helped advise and educate The Rubin Museum’s Mandala Lab, and has contributed to recorded works such as Angel Deradoorian’s Find the Sun and the soundtrack for the film Everything Everywhere All at Once. He has several releases under his own name as well. Samer focuses on guiding people into more restful, compassionate, and open states where the mind-body can recharge and self-heal. His favorite instrument is currently the gong. DURATIONS Festival is a week-long, multi-disciplinary exploration of sound and connection. Now in its fifth iteration, the festival’s programming is its most robust yet, with seven days of music, talks, audiovisual work taking place between Public Records, Pioneer Works, Roulette, and Whitney Museum of American Art. - Public Records aims to provide a safer space.
