Garment Sewing: Make Your Own Piece

Learn to approach garment making with confidence and creativity! Put your sewing skills into practice by sewing your own garment. Under guided instruction, start sewing and constructing the garment of your choice. Bring your pattern from Sewing 3, or arrive at this class with a cut-out pattern of your own. We will go over the process of construction depending on your pattern and design. Learn to approach garment making with confidence and creativity! Prerequisite: Sewing 2 or equivalent, Sewing 3 also recommended — comfort with a sewing machine, pattern use, and construction basics. Details of what to bring to class will be provided after you sign up. About the instructor: Katie Rose Champlin is a Fashion & Textile designer from Portland, Maine. After earning a BFA from the Maine College of Art and Design, she refined her craft within an esteemed fashion design studio nestled in the heart of the NYC garment district. She returned to Maine in early 2024, where she was excited to reintegrate into the Portland art community. She challenges her practice by participating in competitions and shows including the BIAAF international design contest and Runway For Hope in Portland, ME. Katie specializes in apparel design, soft goods design, print design, mending, and upcycling.
