Join us for a FREE, interactive Bullying Prevention Workshop for kids and parents where children will get up, move, practice real-world responses, and build the confidence to handle bullying safely. This interactive community event will give children practical, age-appropriate tools for responding to bullying with confidence, self-control, and good judgment, while helping parents understand how they can support their child when bullying occurs. Kids will learn how to: 🥋 Respond confidently when someone tries to bully them 🗣️ Know when to speak up, walk away, or get an adult involved 🛡️ Recognize when a situation may be becoming unsafe 💪 Build confidence without looking for a fight 🤝 Help and support someone else who is being bullied Parents will learn how to: 👨👩👧 Recognize signs that their child may be dealing with bullying 👂 Respond when a child tells them something is happening 🏫 Work constructively with teachers and school administrators 🚫 Avoid responses that can unintentionally make the situation worse ❤️ Help their child become more confident and resilient This isn't a sit-and-listen lecture. Kids will participate in activities, practice responses, move, and work through realistic bullying situations while parents learn how to reinforce those same skills at home. 🎟️ Completely FREE No martial arts experience is necessary. Students, friends, siblings, neighbors, and other families in our community are all welcome. Parents and guardians should attend with their children so everyone leaves with the same tools and understands how to use them together. ⭐ Why We Do This One of the most important ideas in ATA’s Bullying Prevention Program is that confidence isn’t just about protecting yourself. It’s also about developing the courage and leadership to help others who are being bullied. 2012Q2BPPAgentGFlyNoBleed.pdfPDF Our goal is simple: Help kids stay safe, stand confidently, make good choices, and become defenders of others. 🎟️ Reserve Your FREE Seats There is no charge to attend, but space is limited, so please register everyone who will be attending. Bring your child. Invite another family. Help us build a safer, stronger community. Facts & Myths Parents Need to Know...MYTH: Bullies suffer from insecurity and low self-esteem. They pick on others to make themselves feel more important. RESEARCH: Most bullies have average or above average self-esteem. They “suffer” from aggressive temperaments, a lack of empathy, and poor parenting. MYTH: Bullies are looking for attention. Ignore them and the bullying will stop. RESEARCH: Bullies are looking for control, and they rarely stop if their behavior is ignored. The level of bullying usually increases if the bullying is not addressed by adults. MYTH: Boys will be boys. RESEARCH: Bullying is seldom outgrown; it’s simply redirected. About 60 percent of boys identified as bullies in middle school commit at least one crime by the time they are 24. MYTH: Kids can be cruel about differences. RESEARCH: Physical differences play only a very small role in bullying situations. Most victims are chosen because they are sensitive, anxious, and unable to retaliate. MYTH: Victims of bullies need to learn to stand up for themselves and deal with the situation. RESEARCH: Victims of bullies are usually younger or physically weaker than their attackers. They also lack the social skills to develop supportive friendships. They cannot deal with the situation themselves. - Dr. Dan Olweus, Founding Father of Bullying Prevention Research What Our Students are Saying...“It has helped me feel much stronger and much more healthy and it has also helped me understand that if I put my mind to it, I can do it. It has also helped me understand that if anyone tries to hurt me I can defend myself. I guess it gets easier each time you do something that used to make you scared.” Jamie Pruim - Peoria, AZ “I am proud to be a part of Taekwondo. I have learned many things from my instructors. One is how to deal with bullying. I have learned how to have self confidence and discipline. Fear none but respect all.” Herschel Alexander - Memphis, TN What Our Parents are Saying...“Our son had low self-esteem with no desire to attend school due to some bullying. With time, the kids at his school became aware that he was in taekwondo and the bullying stopped. Just like that, my son’s life changed completely. His focus changed, his self-esteem changed, his attitude changed, and he was just overall a happy kid! I’m eternally thankful for the values they have instilled in my son.” The Navarro Family - San Diego, CA “Because of the Bullying Prevention Program my son knew he would be able to physically defend himself if needed, but he was able to use the program and there was no physical confrontation needed. This to me is very impressive as he is not yet 8 years old. “ Buddy and Heather Allen - Thomasboro, IL Reserve Your Seats Early • Space is Very Limited!
