Home for Horror: Evil Dead II (1987) · R

Ash battles demonic forces in a remote cabin as Sam Raimi unleashes a delirious mix of horror, slapstick, and practical-effects mayhem. Sam Raimi’s part-remake, part-sequel to The Evil Dead is a masterwork of horror-comedy craft — a runaway freight train of physical comedy, splatter effects, deadite possession, and Bruce Campbell taking on an entire cabin (and, memorably, himself). Ash returns to that fateful cabin in the woods, plays the wrong recording, and unleashes hell for a second time. Every practical effects choice, every crash zoom, every trip through the wall is a lesson in what independent filmmaking can pull off on nerve alone. Groovy. Bonus! As a special added bonus, before select films, we’ll be screening the new 30th Anniversary 4K restoration of SEASON’S GREETINGS (1996), the creepy cartoon short from Michael Doherty, director of TRICK R’ TREAT (2007), featuring the first appearance of that film’s “Sam” character. Many thanks to Michael and Minor Demons, Inc for allowing us this opportunity to provide you with this bite-sized fright.
