Home for Horror: The Orphanage / El Orfanato (2007) (Spanish) · R

Presented in Spanish with English subtitles. Producer Guillermo del Toro’s protégé, J.A. Bayona, delivers a genuinely heart-shattering ghost story dressed as a horror film. A woman returns with her family to the seaside orphanage where she was raised, hoping to reopen it as a home for special-needs children — but her young son begins to communicate with unseen friends, and then vanishes. Belén Rueda’s central performance is one of the great turns in 21st-century Spanish cinema. Presented in Spanish with English subtitles. Bonus! As a special added bonus, before select films, we’ll be screening the new 30th Anniversary 4K restoration of SEASON’S GREETINGS (1996), the creepy cartoon short from Michael Doherty, director of TRICK R’ TREAT (2007), featuring the first appearance of that film’s “Sam” character. Many thanks to Michael and Minor Demons, Inc for allowing us this opportunity to provide you with this bite-sized fright.
