Discover mixed media and decoupage techniques in this full-day, beginner-friendly workshop. MAC Presents this full-day decoupage workshop with Lake Macquarie artist Denise Painter, held at MAC yapang (Museum of Art and Culture, yapang) in celebration of Craft Week. Spend the day surrounded by art and the beautiful surrounds of Lake Macquarie as you discover the joy of mixed media and decoupage. Denise will introduce you to combining paint, collage, texture, stencils and mark-making techniques to create a unique and expressive artwork. Through demonstrations and guided hands-on practice, you’ll learn how to build layers, develop composition and add personal meaning to your work. In this workshop, you will: • Learn about the origins and traditions of decoupage • Explore essential materials, tools and preparation techniques • Practise cutting, arranging and applying paper designs to a suitable surface • Build confidence using adhesives, layering images and applying sealing finishes • Explore decorative finishing techniques, troubleshooting and tips for continuing your practice independently • Create your own artwork to take home Key information • Saturday 10 October 2026, 9:30am - 3pm • 5.5 hours, including optional lunch break • Beginner-friendly and designed for adults • All materials included • Bring along any favourite papers, photographs or memorabilia you’d like to incorporate into your artwork • Closed-in footwear is required • Held in the StudioMAC education space inside MAC yapang, accessed via the main entrance foyer • Strictly limited capacity. There is no need to print your tickets. ABOUT DENISE PAINTER Denise is an Australian collage artist and decouper, now living in Lake Macquarie. Known for her earlier work using decoupage, she has won many prizes. More recently, Denise is known for her colourful, detailed collages using a variety of imagery and techniques. Colour features strongly in her work, along with using interesting images and materials. MAC has ramp access for wheelchairs and prams, baby changing facilities and accessible toilets. MAC yapang can be reached easily from the lake foreshore cycleway, the water, or by public transport. There is parking for cars, and buses with accessible spaces available, onsite and adjacent to the Hunter Rowing Club.
