Analogue Surface Pattern Design with Dr Grace Smith

Turn your artwork into a wearable, printable pattern! Designing repeats is a key skill for creating designs for clothing, prints and homewares, as well as celebrating native plants through design. In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn to take an analogue drawing or painting and turn it into a seamless, repeating tile, ready to print on fabric, wallpaper, or anything you dream up. We'll cover motif design, layout, and the seamless-repeat technique. All artists and all styles are welcome to come play and learn! Dr Grace Smith comes from a background in conservation science. She enjoys approaching art as a practice for exploring nature, and the ways science and maths blend with design. All skill levels and art styles are welcome. We will provide basic analogue materials – paper, pencils, watercolours, maybe pastels. Bring an iPad if you have one. A laptop will also work. Note: The Arts & Ecology Centre is within Maroochy Bushland Botanic Gardens. The entrance is off Palm Creek Rd, up from Radbourne Rd. Just be careful if putting address into various map apps as sometimes it tries to take people in from Wilson's Rd or other ways which are not proper entrances.
