The garden in layers

A Botanical Mixed-Media Art Workshop Come and explore the Botanical Gardens through art, colour, texture and layers. The Garden in Layers is a beautiful mixed-media workshop inspired by the idea that no single medium can tell the whole story. Together, we’ll gather inspiration from the gardens and experiment with different creative techniques to create a series of translucent botanical artworks. As always to begin you are invited to take a walk through the gardens, taking time to notice the beautiful leaves, flowers, grasses, seed pods, textures, shapes and colours around us. We’ll gather only fallen and naturally discarded botanical materials, leaving the living garden undisturbed. Then we’ll return to our creative space and begin making. Using watercolour, inks, botanical printing, drawing, stamping and natural textures, we’ll create individual layers on transparent and translucent materials. Each layer will tell its own little story. One might be filled with delicate leaf prints. Another might become a wash of watercolour. all will be filled with organic shapes, colours and the incredible textures of our gorgeous gardens. And then we bring them together. As the layers overlap, colours blend, botanical forms emerge and unexpected patterns appear. Light moves through the artwork, creating depth and changing the way it looks from different angles.
