Beyond Words: Connecting and Communicating through Movement

What does connection look like without words? Join us for an afternoon of short talks, and creative activities and gentle movement to explore connection and communication in the context of Parkinson’s and dementia. Dr Naila Kuhlmann, neuroscientist and founder of the Piece of Mind Collective, will share how science, lived experience, and the arts can come together. She will also present excerpts from performances created with people with lived experience, scientists, and artists. Dr Erica Rose Jeffrey, director of Dance for Parkinson's Australia, will lead simple, accessible movement activities exploring connection and relationship-building. Dr Ruth Brookman, clinical psychologist and research fellow at the MARCS Institute at Western Sydney University, will discuss the psychology of connection and the importance of noticing and responding to the person behind the words. Creative movement will be guided throughout the session. You will be invited to participate in whatever way feels good for you - sit, stand, or simply observe. Come join in the conversation, explore new ways of connecting beyond words, and share your experience with others. This is a hybrid event.
