Full description from organizer

Does this sound familiar? → You know strength training could be good for you, but you’re stuck deciding how to get started… → You keep missing your group fitness class, even though you know you’ll enjoy it once you get there… → Or you’re trying to get more out of your gym membership, but can’t figure out how to build a routine that sticks… If this sounds like you, join Sarah-Beth & Wendy for a conversation about how ADHD can impact your experience of strength training. Popular approaches assume motivation is the problem, and you just need to get more disciplined and try harder. We’ll take a different approach, sharing knowledge and tactics that reflect ADHD experiences. Stuff like building a routine that doesn't depend on motivation, or setting things up so starting takes less effort. We’ll cover the basics of strength training and different ways you can approach it. (Hint: lifting weights at the gym isn’t the only way!) We’ll talk about the positive impact strength training can have on ADHD symptoms and the ways it can be a great fit for your neurodivergent brain. We’ll acknowledge the friction and challenges with starting and continuing a routine, and address them with evidence-based tools and shared real-life experience. You’ll walk away with a worksheet that lays out your plan to get started or keep going with strength training. No workout gear needed - we’ll have a conversation, and you’ll make plans to get moving in ways that work for you! Whether you’ve been diagnosed with ADHD, have been noticing and wondering if neurodivergence is part of your story, or you simply want to explore the connection between executive function and your fitness habits, this workshop is made for you. Wendy brings her experience teaching strength and mobility classes at The Branches. Her approach is about noticing what's happening in your body and tuning in to your own needs and ways of moving, with plenty of laughter, invitations to be curious, and the occasional sneaky anatomy lesson. She'll cover the strength training basics and help the room find approaches that fit how they actually move. Wendy also brings her own experience of neurodivergence and is in the process of exploring what that means for her, and her. Sarah-Beth brings her training as an ADHD Coach, and her lived experience as a late-diagnosed ADHDer raising neurodivergent kids. She’ll use her coaching and facilitation skills to structure the conversation and help participants come away with insights they can apply to their strength training plans. You bring your curiosity about strength training at whatever level you’re at, your openness to exchange ideas with others, and your energy to contribute to a kind and supportive community experience. Ninety minutes. A group of people who want to learn from one another. Exploring our interests, shaped by ADHD experiences. Sign up to save your spot!
