In this session Iryna will teach delicious, authentic authentic Ukrainian dishes followed by a sit-down family-style meal. ABOUT THE CUISINE Ukrainian cuisine is deeply rooted in agricultural traditions, hearty flavours and warm, comforting dishes designed to nourish families through long winters and festive gatherings. Expect wholesome ingredients such as beetroot, potatoes, fermented dairy, mushrooms, and grains, all prepared with simple but thoughtful techniques. Iryna’s dishes showcase the spirit of Ukrainian home cooking — generous, comforting, and made to be shared. ABOUT THE CHEF A message from chef Iryna: “My name is Iryna. I am Ukrainian. I was born in a small town, but spent most of my life in Kyiv - our capital city, where we built our home. I came to the UK in February 2022, soon after the war started. I now live here with my daughter and her young children, beginning a different chapter of my life. Before coming to the UK, I worked for over 30 years as a computer and software engineer, travelling widely as a consultant for international companies. I was fortunate to experience many cultures and cuisines around the world — but of course, home cooking is always the best! Many Ukrainians now live in the UK, but you may not yet have had the chance to try Ukrainian cuisine. Cooking for my family brings me great joy, and I am very pleased to share some of my favourite recipes with you. THE CLASS FORMAT Our cookery classes are family-style - meaning everyone works together to prepare the dishes as a team. While you’ll be asked to choose one dish to focus on, you’ll have the opportunity to move around the kitchen, help with other dishes, and learn from each recipe. It’s a fun, social, and collaborative way to cook! At the end of the class, you’ll sit down with the chef, class facilitator and volunteers to enjoy the delicious meal you’ve created together.
