Full description from organizer

Alexandra Stewart-Long (Bisque-Kit) Public ticket sales open 5pm on 28 October The island coasts are abundant with oyster shells. After their undersea existence is done, what else can these unused shells become? Turning oyster shells into lime isn’t a new idea. Oyster-shell lime was once produced in Hong Kong’s island and coastal communities, connecting this humble marine material to a much longer history of local making and building. In this workshop, we’ll revisit that old material tradition through a contemporary creative process. Come find out in this hands-on workshop, where you’ll turn locally collected oyster shells into a natural, lime-based palette. Then, we’ll use that palette to paint a textured artwork inspired by the Chi Ma Wan Peninsula’s coastlines and communities. Your contribution will become part of a larger collective artwork, co-created with other workshop participants. Join us in rolling up your sleeves and getting better acquainted with this humble island resource, while creating a beautiful and lasting celebration of our ties to each other, to the landscape, and to the region’s natural and industrial history.
