Full description from organizer

Standard Mental Health First Aid with Tī Wana Services What if someone in your whānau, workplace or community wasn't okay - would you know what to do? Mental health challenges can affect any of us, at any stage of life. Sometimes the hardest part isn't knowing what to say - it's noticing the signs, having the confidence to start the conversation, and knowing how to support someone safely. Our Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) workshop gives you practical skills to recognise when someone may be experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis, respond appropriately, and connect them with the right support. At Tī Wana, we bring a relational culturally grounded lens to the kōrero. We recognise that wellbeing doesn't sit separately from our whānau, relationships, identity culture and the environments we live and work in. Across the two-day workshop, we explore: • Depression and anxiety • Psychosis and eating disorders • Problematic substance use • Suicidal thoughts and behaviour • Panic attacks and traumatic events • Acute effects of substance use • Aggressive or distressed behaviour You'll learn how to use the ALGEE 5-step action plan to provide initial support, have safer conversations and respond when someone may be experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis. This workshop is for anyone who wants to be better prepared to support others. Whether you're supporting whānau, colleagues, rangatahi, clients, friends or your wider community, you'll leave with practical skills and greater confidence to know what to do when someone isn't okay. On completion, learners can complete the online assessment to become an accredited Mental Health First Aider for three years.
