the library is open: Her Body & Other Parties

the library is open is a monthly queer reading workshop! The book for October will be Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado the library is open this month will be October 18th, discussing Her Body and Other Parties. Through her debut story collection, Carmen Maria Machado demolishes the arbitrary borders between psychological realism and science fiction, comedy and horror, fantasy and fabulism debut. Machado bends genre to shape startling narratives that map the realities of women’s lives and the violence visited upon their bodies. Plan: • rsvp below • read Her Body and Other Parties* • choose a scary myth, folktale, cryptic, creature you're interested in • chat about Her Body and Other Parties • writing prompts based on the book *the best option is always to get the book from the library or your local indie!!! if you prefer to order online, bookshop.org or thirftbooks are great options, just please don’t get it from Am*zon :) in honor of Latine Heritage Month, all ticket donations will be going to Café con Libros which is an independent bookstore in Crown Heights.
