Tier 2 Enhanced Communication Skills

Training is aimed at registered professionals who are likely to have sensitive conversations with patients and families at end of life. This training is aimed at registered professionals who have sensitive conversations with patients and families at end of life and who are likely to be negotiating clinical decisions. NB The training compliments the Derbyshire wide ReSPECT Authorship. We will focus on how we can use empathy to go deeper in our interactions. We will use RealTalk videos to explore EoLC scenarios such as ‘am I dying’, breaking bad news and challenging relatives. After this training you will be able to: • Identify empathy in practice as a tool to explore deeper concerns and respond in a person centred way. • Notice how empathy unmasks emotion and plan for how to deal with it. • See how challenging communication scenarios at end of life can be navigated with compassion: − Am I dying/how long have I got − Breaking bad news − Challenging relatives − Collusion NB We are running Tier 1 and 2 on the same day. If you wish to attend both sessions please book on separately. It is recommended that staff attend Tier 1 training before progressing to Tier 2. This course contributes 3hrs of CPD towards NMC revalidation.
